??????Portlet：portlet 是一個基于 Java 技術的 Web 組件，它由portlet 容器管理,負責處理請求和生成動態內容的。Portlet 被門戶用作可插入用戶界面組件，用戶界面組件用于在信息系統中提供表示層。
??????Portlet 容器：Portlet Container用來管理Portlet的生命周期并且提供其運行所需要的必要環境. 并且為Portlet Preferences提供持久性(Persistent)存取服務.但是其不支持內容的Aggregation. Aggregation由Portal組件提供.
注: Portlet Preferences是Portlet的一個新特性,提供類似數據庫的功能.但是不是用來取代數據庫. 只是用來存取簡單的Portlet參數配置.

JSR 168 (Java Portlet) 是一種 Java 規范，其目的是在 portlet 和門戶之間建立可移植性關系。這個規范的一個主要目標是為門戶和portlet 供應商建立一組 Java API 標準。這些 API 涉及的領域包括表示、聚合、安全性以及 portlet 生命周期。
